Nailsea is a town near Bristol in the UK. It is located about 5 miles from Bristol Airport and 15 miles from Weston-super-Mare. Other nearby attractions for include the Cheddar Gorge, Mendip Hills, Avon Gorge, Brecon Beacons and Tyntesfield. This page provides frequently updated air temperature data, measured in a typical Nailsea back garden, and also temperature data for the previous week. LundyCam provides similar data for North Devon.
Outdoor air temperature is measured using a Dallas Semiconductor DS1621 sensor, which has quoted ±0.5°C accuracy, but the accuracy of air temperature measurements also depends on the shield around the sensor. This sensor uses the I²C bus, and is interfaced to the PC's serial port by a circuit based on Alberto Ricci Bitti's pcTHERM design. A Java application on the PC communicates with the serial port using the RXTX library. The sensor is located in shade about 1 metre above ground level, and 25 metres above sea level.
