Mainly mountains - Ben Nevis

Ben Nevis is the highest mountain in the UK, at 1344 metres. Located near Fort William in Scotland, it is a major tourist attraction, with its own visitor centre, and there are plenty of campsites, hostels and hotels nearby. These pictures were taken during a walk to the top on the 'tourist path', which zig-zags up the western face of the mountain. The pictures are from mid-May 2004, and there was still plenty of snow on the summit plateau.

Approaching the summit. Approaching the summit. This picture shows why it is necessary to take a dog-leg route from the top of the tourist path to the summit, in order to avoid falling into the gullies of the northern face, which are sometimes concealed by cornices.
