Mainly mountains - Bavaria

Here are some pictures taken during a walk from Garmisch-Partenkirchen to the summit of the Krottenkopf, a small mountain in the Estergebirge. It's possible to do the round-trip in 7 hours or less if you walk quickly, but allow longer if you plan to stop at the Estergebirge Alm. Although the path is well-marked, it was partially hidden by snow in May. Taking a compass and a map such as sheet 31 (Werdenfelser Land) from the Bayerisches Landesvermessungsamt 1:50000 series would be wise. The summit is at 2086 metres, but Garmisch-Partenkirchen is at about 700 metres, so the overall height gain is similar to that involved in climbing a Scottish Munro.
Valley between Burgrain and Farchant This picture was taken from the 413 path, looking west, a few kilometres above the Saint Anton church in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. It shows the valley between Burgrain and Farchant. The large hill on the left is probably the Koenigsstand (1453 metres).
Clearing near Esterberg This is the meadow at Esterberg. The picture was taken just west of the Esterberg Alm, and shows the view northeast towards the Krottenkopf, which is the distant peak.
Approaching the Krottenkopf A bit closer to the Krottenkopf now, this point was marked on the map as 'Hint Esterberg'. The Krottenkopf is the distant peak. The fenced-in structure on the left is a crucifix, a common sight in Bavaria.
Near the Krottenkopf summit This photo was taken at the Krottenkopf hut (1946 metres), looking southeast towards the summit (2086 metres). It's a bit rocky, but otherwise an easy walk.
Schindlerskopf, Archtalkopf and Choughs This is the view looking north from the Krottenkopf summit. The two peaks that form the ridge in the foreground are Schindlerskopf (1940 metres) and Archtalkopf (1927 metres). The two black silhouettes are probably Alpine Choughs.
Southwest from the Krottenkopf summit Looking southwest from the Krottenkopf summit. Esterberg is in the farthest clearing in the valley. The distant peak on the right is the highest peak in Germany, the Zugspitze (2962 metres).
Wettersteingebirge range in the distance A picture taken while heading back down the valley from the Krottenkopf summit towards Estergebirge. There was still some snow here in May. The range in the distance is the Wettersteingebirge, which contains both the Alpspitze and the Zugspitze.
And some miscellaneous pictures:
Summit of Zugspitze in cloud The crucifix marks the summit of the Zugspitze. The weather was cloudy and mild (around zero celcius) with very little wind.
Munchner Freiheit by night This is Siegfried Strasse in Munchner Freiheit, a district of Munich that specialises in cafes, bars, hotels and general entertainment. Picture taken as 2am.
